Donate hundreds of packs of toys to a home for orphans in the capital

Somalia, June, 2021

The CIMIC Team of the National Contingent in support of the EUTM-Somalia mission, composed by Multinational CIMIC Group (MNCG) operators, made a donation in favor of the women's orphanage in the Busione district, as part of the civil cooperation projects and military coordinated with the Benadir Regional Administration. The goods, requested by the management of the orphanage and delivered by the CIMIC operators, consist of material for children and various toys for girls from 3 to 7 years of age.

The project at the orphanage continues the work started in 2020, when the Italian Civil-Military Cooperation started donations of basic necessities, educational equipment and toys to the children of the infrastructure. Also within the framework of projects in favor of vulnerable minorities, the CIMIC team, in coordination with the Somali Ministry of Health and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), plans to renovate the Abdi Aziz orphanage, which has received extensive damage during the downpours of the winter season. The works will begin in the coming weeks.

The donation of toys took place in the presence of the director of the female orphanage, the Commander of the CIMIC Team, Lt. Col. Matteo Mineo and the Commander of the Italian National Support Element, Lt. Col. Russo, as well as a representative of the children guests of the structure. On the occasion, the manager thanked the CIMIC and the Italian contingent who have always been close to the needs of the Somali population and the weakest.

The orphanage of Busione, which currently houses about 400 girls from all over the Benadir region, is one of the largest structures in the Somali capital.
